Research Activities

Sushama Telwatte is the Locarnini Fellow in Virology at the Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity. She completed her PhD at Monash University and the Burnet Institute in Melbourne, Australia, and her postdoctoral training in the laboratory of Dr. Steven Yukl. She was an Assistant Professor in the Dept. of Infectious Diseases at the SF Veteran Affairs Medical Center and UCSF. Her research centers on understanding the mechanisms underlying HIV latency in tissues. Her current work focuses on validating and optimizing single-cell multiplex qRT-PCR and single-cell RNAseq approaches to evaluate cellular and HIV transcriptomes in cells from HIV-infected individuals on suppressive antiretroviral treatment. She has a particular interest in adapting and applying innovative technologies to answer key mechanistic questions.
