Research Activities
Sushama Telwatte is the Locarnini Fellow in Virology at the Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity. She completed her PhD at Monash University and the Burnet Institute in
Melbourne, Australia, and her postdoctoral training in the laboratory of
Dr. Steven Yukl. She was an Assistant Professor in the Dept. of Infectious Diseases at the SF Veteran Affairs Medical
Center and UCSF. Her research centers on understanding the mechanisms
underlying HIV latency in tissues.
Her current work focuses on validating and optimizing single-cell
multiplex qRT-PCR and single-cell RNAseq approaches to evaluate cellular
and HIV transcriptomes in cells from HIV-infected individuals on
suppressive antiretroviral treatment. She has a particular interest in
adapting and applying innovative technologies to answer key mechanistic
questions.
