Career Development Awards 2018 - Winners

Career Development Awards have again been offered by the VIIN to enable early-career researchers who have made a significant contribution to their discipline to attend the Lorne Infection and Immunity conference and present their work.
In 2018, three awards were on offer: one supported by the VIIN, one by the Australian Centre for Infectious Diseases Research in Queensland, and one by the Lorne Infection and Immunity conference organising committee.
A number of very high quality applications were received and each was assessed by members of the Lorne conference committee on criteria of quality of abstract and quality of the applicant’s contribution to science.
The 2018 Career Development Awards have been won by:
Dr Shivani Pasricha from the Hudson Institute of Medical Research, Victoria
Shivani (below) will present a talk titled Nucleomodulin effectors of intracellular pathogen Legionella pneumophila (Session 1, Host-pathogen interactions I, Wednesday 14 February)
Dr Virginie Deswaerte from the Hudson Institute of Medical Research, Victoria
Virginie (below) will present a talk titled The inflammasome adaptor ASC suppresses tumour cell apoptosis, independent of inflammation, via IL-18 in gastric cancer (Session 3, Infection and inflammation, Thursday 15 February)
Dr Stephan Brouwer, University of Queensland, Queensland
Stephan (below) will present a talk titled Molecular characterization of streptococcal superantigens from scarlet fever Streptococcus pyogenes emm12 clones associated with the scarlet fever outbreak in Hong Kong (Session 5, Host-pathogen interactions II, Thursday 15 February)
Each of the successful applicants have received full registration (priced at $630 each) to the Lorne Infection and Immunity Conference, 14-16 February 2018.
